Title: “Recruitment and Dynamics of the Mediator Complex”
Abstract: Mediator is a large, multi-subunit complex that plays a central role in the transcription of mRNA-encoding genes in eukaryotes by bridging DNA sequence-specific activators with the general transcription machinery. My lab has used chromatin immunoprecipitation followed by high throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq), coupled with yeast genetic approaches, to address the mechanisms by which Mediator functions in gene activation. I will discuss recent results that bear on how Mediator is first recruited to its targets and then transitions to contacting the general transcription factors and RNA polymerase II to facilitate gene transcription.
