The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics offers four undergraduate scholarships: Nelson #1, Nelson #2, Pace and Tsutsui. Each year we award $1000 ($500 per semester) to one or more deserving students per scholarship. Scholarships are only available to current students and the criteria for each scholarship are listed on the application. The application is now open!
The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics also offers the Linda Fisher Memorial Scholarship to students participating in study abroad. If you are a BICH or GENE student and will study abroad and would like to apply for the Linda Fisher Memorial Scholarship, please send an email to the Biochemistry & Biophysics Undergraduate Office at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Nestor Bottino Outstanding Senior Award
Nestor Bottino’s contributions to the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics were many; however, his abiding interest was in the development of curricula and other programs which benefited the quality of the undergraduate teaching program. He was a valued member of our faculty from 1959 until his death in April of 1983, coming to Texas A&M University as a post doc with Dr. Raymond Reiser, and continuing on as a teacher and a scientist, contributing greatly to the department. Named in memory of our former colleague Nestor R. Bottino, this award was established to recognize academic excellence on the part of our undergraduate students. To be considered for this award, you must be a BICH or GENE major graduating in the current year (e.g. May, August, or December). Students must be nominated by a faculty member, lecturer, or current student in order to apply for this award. A call for nominations is sent to all faculty members and current students in February. The recipient of this award will receive a plaque and $150 and be announced at the Departmental Graduation Reception in the spring.
