During the University Advisors and Counselors Annual Awards Breakfast held on May 2, 2017, Rafael Almanzar was awarded the 2017 President’s Award for Academic Advising. Established in 2004, this award recognizes outstanding individuals who exemplify the qualities and practices of exceptional academic advising and service to students.
“In my eyes, this is the most prestigious award for an academic advisor at Texas A&M University. Recipients of this award have set the bar extremely high in the advising profession. These are individuals that I have a great deal of respect for and admire what they done in their own advising career. I am both honored and humbled to be part of this elite group,” said Rafael.
Rafael is having an exceptional year as our academic advisor. Earlier this year he was admitted to the Ph.D. Higher Education Administration program at Texas A&M University. In February, he was awarded the 2017 Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN) Outstanding Academic Advisor Award. Rafael shares, “I feel very blessed about how well things have turned out for me this year. All my hard work, drive and ambition is paying off and I still have much more to accomplish.”
Furthermore, Rafael has also given back to the advising profession by presenting at a number of advising conferences and mentoring new graduate advisors at A&M. He was the co-chair for the annual Advising Symposium for the University Advisors and Counselors (UAC), held on February 23, 2017. He adds, “I was extremely pleased with how well the UAC Symposium went. The planning committee did an amazing job and elevated the symposium to another level, which our attendees appreciated.” Rafael is currently serving on the planning committee for the next UAC Advising Symposium scheduled for November 14th.
In his 3 years at Texas A&M University, Rafael has been recognized by the BGA (Biochemistry Graduate Association), UAC (University Advisors and Counselors), NACADA (National Academic Advisor Association), TEXAAN (Texas Academic Advising Network), Texas A&M and the department for his exceptional work in advising. Congratulations to Rafael for earning the President’s Award for Academic Advising.
