| Ella Doerge Named Outstanding Junior |
posted by Betty Cotton - 03/10/2008 04:49 pm
Ella Doerge has been selected as the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences Outstanding Junior for Phi Kappa Phi. This is a tremendous honor! According to our Associate Dean, Dr. Kenimer, "Each year the Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi recognizes one outstanding junior from each college at Texas A&M. Each college's recipient will be honored at the society's initiation ceremony (April 13) and will receive a plaque and monetary award. In addition, a single student will be selected from this pool to be named the University Outstanding Junior."
Ella is in her second year as a GENE major, but is classified as a junior by hours. She is also a varsity student athlete (women's swimming). We are very proud of her! We think she has a good chance of being selected as the University Outstanding Junior.
Last year the selected student for the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences was also one of our majors, Miss Shefali Gajjar (a Biochemistry major).

| Sad news/Memorial Fund |
posted by Jim Hu - 08/18/2004 11:15 pm
The department was deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of Dr. Linda Fisher on Sunday, August 8, 2004. Dr. Fisher was Dr. Gunn's wife, and worked in the department for many years after getting her PhD with Dr. Nick Pace.
We have had many requests from individuals wishing to honor Linda Fisher's memory with a contribution to a suitable fund. We have set up a fund in the Texas A&M Foundation for this purpose.
Those wishing to contribute to this fund should make checks payable to: The Texas A&M Foundation. Indicate in the memo line or in a separate note that you wish to contribute to the Linda Fisher Memorial Fund.
The best way to assure efficient processing of the check would be to send it to:
Melissa Kay
Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics
Texas A&M University
2128 TAMU
College Station, TX 77843-2128
We will discuss with Martyn Gunn at an appropriate time how these funds might best be utilized to honor Linda's memory.
Please contact Dr Reinhart (gdr@tamu.edu) or Melissa Kay (melissak@tamu.edu) if you have any questions.

Whoop! Pablo Sobrado will be joining the ranks of an Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech. Pablo Sobrado was a postdoctoral fellow with Brian Fox in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was supported by a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association. He received his PhD in Biochemistry in 2003 under Dr. Paul Fitzpatrick's direction.
